Well today I officially start my mental training for the half marathon I’m running in October. I have ten weeks to train and get my body ready for the longest run I’ve ever done. I’m really excited about this because I just completed a 7 mile race that was very hilly and I did great. I felt so good from the start to the end. This just blows my mind because when I started running over a year ago, I couldn’t run for 5 minutes without stopping. I use to say: “I’m not a runner,” “Running is for skinny people, I’m too fat.” I always looked at running as something that was for people who were in great shape and that certainly wasn’t me. Now I will say proudly, “I’m a runner and a badass.”
So my mental training involves healthy eating which includes: no drinking, no coffee, and sugar in moderation. I still do weight watchers but this “mental training” for my marathon is not to lose weight. I don’t give a shit about the weight I will lose or not lose. I don’t give a shit about the size of my jeans. I want to be as prepared as I can be for this big goal of 2012. I'm also going to cheer myself on even when I don't make the best food choices or don't follow through with a run or exercise class. I'm going to be my most supportive cheerleader. It starts with me and if I'm beating myself up, I don't have a chance. To keep myself accountable and truthful I’m also going to blog daily until my race.
Food diary as of 3:00 p.m. eastern:
Breakfast- 1 banana 1/2 cup fat free plain greek yogurt. This is too little of a breakfast but I was in a hurry to get out of the house.
Snack: 5 large olives
Snack: 5 large olives
Lunch-Big salad with: garbanzo beans, grilled chicken, broccoli, tomatoes, sprouts, 1 tbsp honey mustard, and 2 tbsp of balsamic vinegar.
1 banana
Dinner Plan:
Small salad, 5 oz grilled chicken, 1 cup grilled peppers and onions, sour cream, salsa, and 1 cup brown rice.
Obstacle:
I have a date with my hubby tonight and we’re going to the movies and then out for dessert. My plan is to walk downtown to Rice to Riches since it’s my honey’s favorite. The walk is a mile and right next door there’s a Pink Berry so I can have frozen yogurt with fruit. Then we can walk back to Union Square which is another mile. The date isn’t about the food right, it’s about walking and enjoying this awesome guys company. I’m also going to take fruit and my own popcorn to the movies. Oh and water no diet coke.
One more thing....it would be so much fun if you shared your 10 week goal with me. Tell me what you want to do. Maybe it’s walk up to 2 miles or run your first 5k. I would love to know.
