Day 167

I was feeling really tired tonight and then a friend from college posted an article asking if all kids should go to college. I started to reflect on this and after reading the article I felt sad. This topic makes me want to become some kind of career counselor to women out of jail or teen dropouts. I believe all people should have the option to go to college because sometimes your high school accomplishments do not reflect what you are capable of. I'm proof of that. There needs to be more life counseling and career coaching done in high school and college. I went to college and I’m still damn trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. Our society puts so much emphasis on having a degree that it sometimes takes good, smart people out of the race. How do we change this mindset? Maybe we don't. Maybe we're not putting enough emphasis on education anymore but instead on instant fame and fortune.

I didn’t exercise and I ate so so. I will do some form of exercise tomorrow because it makes me a much happier person.

  1. The thing I got out of college was great friendships, but in terms of an education I sometimes wonder if I should have done something else. I was never good at school, but I don't think I'm dumb. I just like to approach life in a more hands on kind of way rather having my nose in a book. Or at least I used to like that. Now, who knows. I guess I'll find out if I go back to school next year.

  2. I hear you. I barely passed high school and if it wasn't for getting into ENMU on probation with an acting scholarship, I wouldn't have succeeded in college. I want to go back to school because I know I would get so much more out of it. This is a wild question but do you think our problem is that in America now we feel like we should love what we do? We see so many celebrities glorified and they all say "I LOVE MY JOB!" Do you think they key to happiness is to just get to like. I'm not sure I believe this but I did start to reflect on if entitlement is our greatest evil.

  3. I don't think loving your job equates to entitlement. Some people love jobs that don't pay millions of dollars for 3 months of work. Think about nurses, teachers or even bus drives and bike messengers who all love their jobs. I mean, not every job is for every person so what one person loves, another might hate. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who wouldn't mind doing what I do, but it's not for me. I don't know, but I think happiness is the right of all human beings and since we spend so much of our time at work, we should love it and let it contribute to our happiness.
